About This Index
This index is created for Simmons College LIS419 Subject Analysis class taught by Prof. Candy Schwartz.
Scope of the Index
This index includes 125 education journals selected from Rivier College's E-journal
collection. These journals are fully accessible to Rivier College students, faculties and staff from the
Library Website.
The journals are indexed on the title level. That is, the descriptors describe the journal's overall content and the topics that might be found in its
issues. The descriptors are not for specific issues or articles. Instructions on how to use this journal is located at the User Guide section.
Indexing Principles
- The index uses American English spelling.
- The subject index is created using ERIC
Thesaurus. UNESCO Thesaurus is used as authority file for geographic names.
- Journal information is retrieved from database provider, publisher's website, journal reviews, or 10 of the most recently published issues. The publisher's website is
used as authority file when the sources have contradicting information.
- Journals that have experienced title changes are indexed under both its original
and current name.
- Official publications by associations or organizations are also indexed by the organization
name. Official organization's websites are used as authority file for the organization names.
- Cross references are based on term structures of ERIC thesaurus:
- "See" references are used for deactivated terms in the subject index.
- "See" references are also used to guide users from an alternative journal title to its official journal name.
- "See also" references are given only for closely or directly related terms.
